National Research Council of Italy - Institute of Methodologies for Environmental Analysis (CNR-IMAA)
About CNR-IMAA
The Institute of Methodologies for Environmental Analysis (IMAA) is a unit of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) characterized by a large involvement in national and international research projects, a high scientific productivity and a concrete support and technological transfer to end users. IMAA research activity is responsive to, and develops links with, academics, central and local government and industrial community and promotes high level educational programs (i.e. PhD) in cooperation with national and foreign Universities. The Institute consists of several interdisciplinary research units: Earth Observations, Chemical-physical characterisation of soil and subsoil, Management of agricultural and natural resources, Development of advanced techniques (in-situ and remote sensing) for environmental monitoring, Energy-Environmental Planning and Modelling (EPM). These activities are supported by several laboratories and instrumental facilities.
CNR-IMAA and the RENERGY project
The main role of the Energy-Environmental Planning and Modelling (EPM) of CNR-IMAA in RENERGY will be to provide key knowledge to the partners in order to define and implement methods (e.g. in self-assessment, implementation plan) that can enhance energy efficiency and utilization of RES. This role is in line with the overall objective of the institute, which is to support the partners and policy makers in defining sustainable energy strategies. CNR also expects to BENEFIT from the know-how transfer and the opportunity to collaborate with regional and local authorities all over Europe.
CNR-IMAA has a close relationship with the local authorities as it provides technical support for the definition of local energy-environmental plans, air emissions inventories and sustainable tourism strategies. Through extensive network with local authorities, the institute is best placed to be the knowledge provider for the „POLICY FRAMEWORK” thematic pillar in the project.
